Alternatives for Picky Eaters

by The Wannabe WAHM on July 19, 2010

My mother cut out an article from a parenting magazine* in Spanish on nutrition for me to share with you guys. Sophia isn’t a picky eater but I am and my mother went through A LOT trying to get me to eat nutritious foods.

I’ve translated and summarized for you.

If your child rejects broccoli and carrots, don’t worry. You can find the same minerals and vitamins in fruits and veggies that your child DOES like.

Carrots: If your child doesn’t like to eat this veggie packed full of Vitamin A, try offering sweet potato fries, melon or dried apricots.

Broccoli: Having trouble getting your toddler to eat his/her broccoli? You can find Vitamin C in lots of foods like tomato sauce, red or green peppers and strawberries.

Spinach: Your child doesn’t like to eat Spinach. Not a problem! Your toddler can still get their Potassium from baked potatoes, plantains or steamed edamame (soy beans).

Lettuce: This one is tricky. But you can give your child the Folic Acid they need by offering green peas, orange juice or asparagus.

Do you have any tricks or tips to share with moms of picky eaters? Leave a comment and share your knowledge!

* I’d love to credit the magazine and the author of this article for their work but all I have is a cut-out of the article. I have no idea where it came from.

Drooling! Those foods are tasty! I’ll go to the market tomorrow and shop some of those. Thanks.

Isn’t it interesting how non-parents always think that they will not raise a picky eater when they become parents? Little do they know that your child will be as picky as they want to be and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about it. Anyways, I digress. My son is a picky eater. Dipping things in ranch dressing helps. :)

Luckily, I don’t have this issue. If I put a pile of green beans next to a cheeseburger, my daughter would (most likely) choose the beans. And fruit? She’ll eat it all. I guess she takes after her “vegetarian” mother. I’m not really a vegetarian, but I’m the same as her. I’ll opt for the veggies over the meats ANYDAY!

And what does this mean? Baby #2 will be super picky!
