TECHY STUFF

A Facebook fan page is a great way to gain more exposure for your blog. It’s also a fantastic way to keep your readers engaged, since it looks like at least half of the world seems to be logging into Facebook daily.

I felt it was extremely tedious to have to go into my Facebook Fan Page and post a link to my blog every time I wrote something new. Luckily, I have discovered how to publish my blogs feed automatically to my fan page and I am going to share this tip with you right now!

1- Log in to Facebook.

2- Go to the Networked Blogs Facebook Fan Page.

3- Click on ‘Go to Application.’

4- Click on ‘Allow.’

5- Click on ‘Profile.’

6- Scroll down and click on ‘Add your blog.’

7- You’ll be directed to a page where you need to fill in information about your blog: url, description, etc. Fill everything out and click on ‘next.’

8- Then, you will if you are the author of this blog. Click ‘yes.’

9- Now you need to verify that you are the author of this blog. You can do this by having friends verify you (which takes time) or by adding the Networked Blogs widget to your blog (you can remove it once you’ve been verified as the author). I would suggest using the widget.

10- You will be provided with HTML code to paste into your blog in order to verify that you are the author of this blog. Once you’ve copied it into your blog, click on ‘verify.’

If you need instructions on how to paste this code into your blog, click on ‘Click for Installation Instructions.’

11- After your verification has been successful, you need to setup your feed to automatically update on your fan page. You’ll be taken to this window. Click on ‘Feed Settings’ on the right sidebar.

12- Scroll down to Fan Pages and click on ‘Configure.’

Then, click on ‘Install.’

This will open a new browser and you will be asked to confirm that you want to add Networked Blogs to your fan page. Click on ‘Add NetworkedBlogs.’ You’ll be redirected to your blog fan page. You can close this browser and return to the previous one where you will still be on the Networked Blogs Feed Settings page.

13- Click on ‘Yes‘ when asked if you have installed Networked Blogs on your page.

14- Then you’ll be given the option to Auto-Publish your blog posts to your page wall. Check the box.

15- Finally, a pop-up will appear asking you to allow Networked Blogs to publish to your page. Click on ‘Allow Publishing.

Doing this tutorial is actually quite simple. It might look a little long because I chose to illustrate every step but I assure you, YOU CAN DO IT!

Get Your Facebook Page a Custom URL

by The Wannabe WAHM on May 5, 2010

If you have a Facebook Page for your blog or website, your URL probably looks something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Wannabe-WAHM/128187303434

The good news is that if you have over 25 fans ( or ‘likes’ as they call it now) you can get your own custom URL and turn it into something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/TheWannabeWAHM

Getting a custom URL for your Facebook Page will allow people to remember it easily and will look SOOOO much better when you write it!

So how do you get your custom URL?

Piece of cake!

1- Go to http://www.facebook.com/username and log in.

2- You’ll be redirected to this page.

Click on the link at the bottom to ‘Set a username for your page.’

3- Select your Page from the drop down menu (if you have more then one) and enter your desired your username. Then, click on ‘Check availability.’

4- If the name is available, Facebook will display a pop-up letting you know that this name choice will be finalized and cannot be changed once you click ok.

The whole process takes just seconds but please be sure that you have your username (and a back up, just in case) chosen before you go ahead and do this.

You can also do this for your Facebook profile. Just skip step #2.
